DimLight

Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 7, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how DimLight ("the app", "we", "us") handles information when you use our Android application. DimLight is a screen brightness control app that lets you adjust your device's brightness system-wide, apply an extra-dim overlay, save brightness presets, and schedule automatic night dimming.

Information We Do Not Collect

DimLight does not require an account, does not collect your name, email, or contact details, and does not read or transmit your personal files, photos, or messages. The app's core brightness, preset, and schedule settings are stored only on your device and are never sent to us.

Permissions We Request

Permission Why we need it
WRITE_SETTINGS Lets DimLight change your device's system-wide screen brightness when you enable "Control system-wide" in the app. This permission is only requested after you explicitly turn that toggle on.
SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW Lets DimLight draw the optional "Extra Dim" overlay on top of other apps, so you can dim your screen darker than your device's hardware minimum.
POST_NOTIFICATIONS Lets DimLight show a status bar notification while the Extra Dim overlay is active, so you can turn it off quickly without opening the app.
FOREGROUND_SERVICE Keeps the Extra Dim overlay running reliably while the app is in the background, as required by Android for apps that draw persistent overlays.

None of these permissions are used to collect or transmit personal data — they exist solely to let the app control your screen's appearance, as described above.

Advertising (Google AdMob)

DimLight uses Google AdMob to display advertisements within the app. AdMob may collect and process certain data to serve ads, including relevant and personalized ads where permitted by your consent and applicable law. This may include:

This data is collected and processed by Google in accordance with the Google Privacy Policy and the AdMob data collection disclosure. Where required (for example, under GDPR in the EEA/UK), DimLight will present a consent form before showing personalized ads, and you can choose to see non-personalized ads instead.

You can review or reset your advertising identifier, and control ad personalization at the device level, from your Android Settings under Google → Ads.

Data Storage

All app preferences — your saved brightness level, presets, extra-dim setting, and night schedule — are stored locally on your device using standard Android app storage. We do not operate any backend server that receives or stores this information.

Third-Party Services

Aside from Google AdMob described above, DimLight does not share data with any other third-party service, analytics provider, or advertiser.

Children's Privacy

DimLight is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If ads are shown to a user identified as a child, DimLight relies on AdMob's child-directed treatment settings to serve only non-personalized, appropriate ads as required by applicable law (e.g. COPPA).

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
